The goal of the Co-Counsel program is to further the professional growth and development of law students through interaction with established or retired attorneys and professionals. Senior counsel facilitate the law student's exposure to the legal profession, and address such issues as leadership skills, career management, networking opportunities and exposure to the actual practice of law.The Co-Counsel program pairs law school students (Junior Counsel) with qualified and experienced alumni (Senior Counsel). Senior Counsel share experiences and wisdom gained during their professional journey while volunteering their time to mentor, advise, and guide law students while they adjust to law school and prepare for life after law school.Matches will occur in the spring of a student's 1L year. The requirement is for a one-year commitment (spring 1L - spring 2L) but we welcome matches to remain through graduation if both parties wish to do so. Many build lifelong friendships and relationships. Co-counsel is currently closed for the 2018 school year. Please feel free to apply so you are in our system for next year! If you have questions, contact Morgan Hutter.***Co-counsel positions are available only to alumni of the William & Mary Law School
Each spring at Law Alumni Weekend, the Law School welcomes back classes celebrating their 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50+ year reunions. A small group of volunteers from each reunion class is needed to help plan the class party and organize the class gift. Volunteers will be asked to take on a leadership role in encouraging attendance at reunion and enlisting their classmates to support the class gift (planning for reunions begins in August and continues until Law Alumni Weekend in April).***This opportunity is only available for alumni of the William & Mary Law School
The Alumni Ambassador program allows you to connect with William & Mary Law School and our prospective and admitted students. For example, you can be a resource to admitted students or staff at a recruiting event. Whatever the option that you select, the Admission Office will provide you with the necessary support. Our Alumni Ambassadors are an important and unique factor for our admitted students as they select their law school. Ambassadors are, and you can be, significant resources, and many provide networking opportunities for our admitted students as these students begin their legal careers.***This opportunity is only available for alumni of the William & Mary Law School
Each year we host a variety of receptions and small events for our Law Alumni across the United States. Help us to expand these regional events by working with the Office of Alumni Affairs on securing dates, venues & marketing to local Alumni. Secondly, we are looking for volunteers to help us to create a new annual event for our most recent Law Alumni that have graduated within the past five years.***This opportunity is only available for alumni of the William & Mary Law School
We are always looking for Marshall-Wythe Alumni that are interested in furthering the mission of the Law School. Members of the Law School's Alumni Association Board volunteer their time and resources to aid in the student, faculty/staff & alumni experience. New members are nominated to serve on the board throughout the year. The board then approves nominations and a slate of officers for election at their annual meeting each spring. Applying for this opportunity registers your interest in serving on the Alumni Association Board and your information will be presented to the Nominating Committee. Serving on the Board is a two (2) year commitment.***Board positions are available only to alumni of the William & Mary Law School***Have someone in mind who would be a great addition to the board? Nominate them here.
We often have conferences or speaking opportunities during class. If you are interested in sharing your skill-set please let us know.
In 2017 we launched a new program to help our law students transition from student to lawyer. Each summer, we will provide a list of interested alumni to our students. Students can then reach out to these alumni to network over lunch when they are away from Marshall-Wythe and all over the country. If you are interested in treating a law student to lunch over the summer, please complete the below form. Please note, you may not be contacted based on availability and student's summer locations.* Participating alumni and students are responsible for being aware about company policies with regard to "gifts". If purchasing a lunch for a student would be an issue, please consider going Dutch or not meeting over a meal. Thank you.For more information or questions, please contact MLHutter@wm.edu / 757-221-3796.***This opportunity is restricted to individuals who have graduated from a law school***
